Message from Executive Director

Our new look and new approach are an affirmation of a new attitude that has been evolving in our organization over the past decade. For over 30 years, the BC Excluded Employees’ Association has dedicated itself to providing services that fit the needs of public service leaders across the province. That will never change. What is changing is the way in which we will deliver our services to members whose values and needs are rapidly evolving. The BCEEA is currently blessed with the solid support of over 500 members.  Our communication network extends to over 1200 excluded managers at all levels and in all regions of the province.

These numbers reflect a significant decrease in membership, primarily due to our inability to attract new members to offset the loss of baby boomers who are happily moving into retirement. Our research shows that our problem is not the level of service we offer or our commitment to serving our members, but the fact that potential members simply don’t know about us, and that some of the services we currently offer are gradually outliving their relevance to potential members.  Our new marketing strategy is designed to address both of these issues.

Our new attitude stems from the realization that the BCEEA is the only professional association devoted exclusively to supporting excluded public service employees, and as such, is a valuable resource. Accordingly, it is time for the Association to stand up and tell the world that we are more than just a place to express frustration and find solutions to work related problems; that we are a vibrant professional development organization, fully capable of making a valuable contribution to the success of our members and the BC Public Service as a whole.

So how are we going to do this?

The strategy is simple.  We are making a conscious effort to remove false impressions that we are an employee advocacy organization with limited resources and influence.  We are committed to becoming an organization that will be widely recognized, internally and externally for its dedication to the ongoing development of professional leaders in the public service. Our plan is to work closely with government to create an environment that encourages excellence, and supports leaders who are committed to excellence, both personally and professionally. We will continue to influence government to do what is right for excluded employees, not because we have a Memorandum of Understanding that gives us the right to talk to them, but because we will have earned their respect by demonstrating that we share their vision and are willing to partner with them in promoting the BC Public Service as the “Best Public Service Employer in Canada”.

What tools do we plan to use?

Our primary tool will be the power of networking through our website and special events.  Our secondary tool will be the power of partnering with other professional organizations.

Our new website is designed to support an environment where members and others can easily share information with each other, with the BCEEA and with government.  partnering with professional organizations that have similar goals which will enhance the Association’s ability to stay abreast of current trends and opportunities and enjoy the efficiencies of sharing resources.

This is not going to happen overnight, but with the support of excluded employees across the province, it will happen. As members, we need you to actively participate in the achievement of our goals by making full use of the services we offer, by actively responding to opportunities to serve on committees, and most of all by communicating the existence of the BCEEA and the value of belonging.  If you are a non-member, we need you to join us on this exciting journey by signing up today.
