FAQ's

Who does the BCEEA support?

We support all excluded employees in British Columbia’s public service, including managers, Schedule ‘A’ employees, and employees appointed by an Order in Council.

Why should I join the BCEEA?

We provide a broad range of services designed to help you succeed, including legal assistance program, mentoring/coaching, resume and interview preparation services, preferred banking and insurance rates. You will also receive regular communications and have access to reference materials and the latest research on policy issues that affect non-union employees. See 'Services' section for a complete list and details. At every stage of your career, we are here to support you and help you achieve your professional goals.

Is the BCEEA like a union?

No. We are a voluntary, non-confrontational organization. We do not have the power to negotiate. We network with members to identify issues and other opportunities for improving excluded employees’ working conditions. We maintain a positive working relationship with government so that we can share and resolve our members’ concerns.

How much does it cost?

Membership fees are 0.4% of an employees' base salary to a maximum of $400 per year. For example, an employee earning $50,000 can expect to pay $11.54 biweekly. Your membership fees can be paid directly through payroll. Membership fees are the Association's only source of income.

Is my BCEEA fee tax deductible?

Yes. Under Section 8 (1)(i) of the Income Tax Act, fees paid by a taxpayer to maintain membership in an association of public servants, are tax deductible.

Do I qualify for membership?

If you are employed directly or indirectly by the Government of British Columbia and are not included in collective bargaining as defined in the Public Service Labour Relations Act, you are eligible for membership in the BCEEA.
